EP #06 - Avatar: The Way of Water, The World Cup, & Favorite Moments of 2022
HAPPY 2023! Welcome to a brand new year as well as a brand new episode of FILM FRAT Podcast!
Everything that has happened up to this point has been mixing, brewing, and cooking up since 2022. This episode tackles the challenge of taking a look back at everything that was consumed as well as reflecting on the wild journey throughout the year.
Let’s get straight into the big bucks… Avatar: The Way of Water. The length of this incredible film was almost as long as it took to make it. The boys take some time to discuss just exactly how they felt about James Cameron’s sequel to the extremely successful ‘Avatar’. Who is Kiri’s father? Why do the wales have so much personality? Will the next three sequels even happen? Who knows.
One of the most heart-touching moments in all of 2022 was found in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’. This film opened the doors to Wakanda and allowed the audience to yearn and mourn not only T'Challa, but also Chadwick Boseman. A touching tribute, coupled with a new rendition of the Black Panther as well as the introduction of a new civilization, makes for an incredible experience.
2022 was filled with some stand-out films and TV shows, some better than others, but memorable nonetheless! Alex mentions Demon Slayer and Spy X Family as notable animes that were a good watch. Jordan Peele’s ‘NOPE’ was thrilling and has been resonating since its release. One of the most unsettling experiences came in the form of ‘Terrifier 2’, which cannot be explained in words… Curtis solidifies ‘The Menu’ as the most fun he has had at the movie theaters in 2022. Damien Chazelle delivers a chaotic and bright project with his most recent release, ‘Babylon’. A quick honorable mention goes to the TV series, ‘Dead to Me’, which Curtis mentions has a bizarre concept.
Like the movies and TV shows, the music industry delivered some amazing pieces of work throughout 2022. Notable mentions for Alex: Drake & 21 Savage - Her Loss, SZA - S.O.S., Metro Boomin - Heroes & Villains, Bad Bunny - Un Verano Sin Ti. Curtis’ Spotify Wrapped: $NOT - Ethereal, Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future, $uicideBoy$ - Sing Me A Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation.
Just when you think the year couldn’t have ended in a greater way, the 2022 FIFA World Cup took those expectations and multiplied it by 100. Argentina and Lionel Messi wrote the perfect script, losing their first game then making a legendary run to the finals. France vs. Argentina will go down in history as the BEST World Cup final.
The Baseball season also had many insane storylines, with the Houston Astros winning their first Championship since their controversial cheating season in 2017. The MLB has had an interesting post-season with many player acquisitions and team construction.

EP #05 - Halloween Horror, ‘Smile’, & Pick-A-Villain
HAPPY HALLOWEEN and welcome back to another episode of FILM FRAT PODCAST!
A new episode, a new setting, a new addition to the line-up of boys, AND a new set of thrilling topics.
After the numerous amounts of talk and hype, the man himself, Jonah Alonzo, makes an appearance and takes his rightful spot as the third host. Jonah has been busy in Bullhead City, working as a videographer for the incredibly successful entrepreneurs, Mike and Bo.
What’s a Halloween season without the costumes? The boys come dialed in and ready to showcase their new identities. Boston’s very own Tom Brady, Paco from ‘Blood In Blood Out', and Rick from ‘The Mummy’ gather around the stage to discuss only the most important topics.
What’s the best Halloween candy? Maybe one of the most debated topics during this season, the hosts share some of their favorite treats. Trick or treating took patience and skill, and at the end of the night, you would be able to go into your infinite stock of candy and trade with your best buds. Some candies were amazing (Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups) and some were better off in the trash (Hot Tamales)...
The day after Halloween, November 1st, marks the beginning of one of the most important decision processes, asking the question “who am I gonna dress up as for Halloween next year?”. The boys have a heart to heart and share some of the best outfits that they have thrown together.
The leaves begin to fall, the wind becomes stronger, the air becomes cooler, and the movies become spookier. One of the best traditions during Spooktober is to throw on some scary movies throughout the month. Movies such as ‘Halloween’ and ‘Scream’ are classics and must-watch material. A huge shout out to the horror video game genre, games such as Resident Evil are great at setting the tone for the season.
A smile might be contagious, but so is a creepy horror film experience. ‘Smile’ is an interesting story that leaves you unsettled and curious by the end of the movie. The message of the film, which is straightforward yet powerful, seems to be left open for interpretation. Just like the experience in theaters, the promotional tactics used throughout MLB games were incredibly bone-chilling.
Horror films might be scary, but nothing compares to spooky and unexplainable personal stories. The boys gather around to recount some of the most disturbing occurrences that they have personally experienced.
If you had to pick one of the many iconic horror film villains to protect you, who would you pick? The hosts come together to compile a list of killers that can serve as personal bodyguards and discuss head-to-head matchups.

FILM FRAT PODCAST
EP# 04 - Jordan Peele’s ‘NOPE’, Barbarian, and Phoenix Suns Predictions
Yet Another Episode of FILM FRAT PODCAST, this time, at the new crib!
With a new setting comes new topics.
Alex and Curtis share stories and their experiences after attending the “Night to Remember'' event, hosted by Arizona Filmmakers. From the insanely gorgeous venue to the amazing outfits shown, the event held up to its name.
The boys have been busy lately, watching different films and diving deep into critiquing and digesting each film. One of which happens to be Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated ‘NOPE’. The “grand” feeling of the film accompanied by a simplistic set of actors and locations makes for a MUST WATCH experience, especially in theaters. Do we recommend it? “YUP”.
Switching genres, Curty and Alejo find themselves sitting down through a run-time of 2 hours and 6 minutes to watch ‘Bullet Train’, a quirky, action packed film that was absolutely carried by the cast, performance, and fight choreography. Just like the expansive list of characters, the boys think of an expansive list of reasons why it was a fun watch. Gather yourself some homies, crack open some seltzers (alcoholic or not), and enjoy the wild train ride.
‘Barbarian’ was definitely… an experience. Shoutout to McKenzie for recommending this one, it was a barbaric experience to say the least. Overall a solid watch, but the ending might be somewhat lackluster. The unsettling moments in this film definitely make an impression and Justin Long’s performance added that extra “umph” that created a break within the plot.
Let’s take some time to appreciate Dylan Clark for their short film, “Portrait of God’. The 7-minute film feels like a 90-minute experience that keeps you invested the whole way through. The potential that this short film has to become a full-fledged feature is almost as big as Curtis’ love for the project.
One of the most anticipated additions to the MCU has just been announced in the most “Deadpool” way imaginable. Ryan Reynolds takes to social media to reveal that his best friend, Hugh Jackman, will be joining him in Deadpool 3. Alex and Curtis discuss some of the theories that people have been making on how Deadpool and Wolverine will join Earth 616’s extensive list of heroes.
The Avengers of the dark-rap genre came out to AZ to provide an unforgettable experience. $NOT, $uicideboy$, and Ski Mask the Slump God all teamed up to bless the Phoenix Raceway but the walk to the venue was as long as the performance.
The 2022-2023 NBA season is right around the corner, which marks Zion Williamson’s 3rd year as a rookie. This year will be full of redemption stories, revenge arcs, and heroes & villains. The Suns play the Dallas Mavericks their first game, a very important and much needed rematch.

EPISODE 3 IS HERE. Curtis & Alex finally make their return after a short hiatus to bring you the latest in the creative space.
They first want to thank the good people over at Hive Studio for allowing them to use their creative space for the podcast. Also shoutout to Arizona Filmmakers for helping creatives thrive in the community!
Join the Co-hosts as they discuss Thor: Love & Thunder and the future for the MCU. The vibrant, stylistic, and adventurous nature of the film made for a fun watching experience that helps set up future plot points for the next MCU installments.
Alex explains the recent hype for the anime “SPY X FAMILY” which is enticing and mysterious. Curtis switches up the genres by recommending “Spiderhead”, a film starring Miles Teller and Chris Hemsworth, and “Stranger Things”, the extremely popular Netflix original. All three of these pieces of work are worth a watch!
KENDRICK LAMAR IS FINALLY BACK. One of the biggest anticipated albums, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” finally dropped and created a ripple in the music space. Through differing opinions, Curtis & Alex discuss their take on the album, what the significance of the hidden messages mean, and how it stacks up against the rest of Kendrick’s discography. Both hosts also give their Album of the Year takes.
The Phoenix Suns’ 2021-2022 season was a wild roller coaster. From clinching the 1st seed in the West, to losing in an embarrassing fashion to the Dallas Mavericks in the 2nd-round, the NBA community was shocked. The boys talk Postseason trade scenarios as well as what the future for the Suns franchise could possibly look like.
The overall “buzz” in Phoenix as a community is higher than ever, and one of the people leading that charge is UFC Bantam-Weight monster Suga Sean O’Malley. The creative atmosphere in Phoenix is one of the fastest growing, which will lead into new & exciting opportunities!
